Blind Duncan’s Blues, Chapter 2: Dynamite Fire (2-26-12)

13:52 – Blind Duncan’s Blues by Arthur Jaz (aka Shambles)
This is my first novel, Blind Duncan’s Blues, which I completed in 2004 and am now releasing here upon an unsuspecting public. Blind Duncan’s Blues is a novel consisting of interrelated short stories about a boy named Duncan Pierce. It covers various incidents in Duncan’s life, ranging from the age of eighteen months through about eleven years. There are eighteen chapters in all, which will be released sporadically on Onsug.com. Read by the author.

There are certain autobiographical elements to this book, but they mainly consist of general impressions of what it was like to be a child in the early 1980s in Illinois. I never had an older brother who made me eat cat food; my parents had a much happier and stronger marriage than Duncan’s own folks; none of my teachers ever made me wear a dunce cap. The situations that arise for Duncan from being in a large family (as well as a dysfunctional one) I had to either steal from other people’s experiences or fictionalize entirely.

However, I did start writing stories at an early age, and I did play Santa Claus one year in the Christmas program. Most of the rest is fictionalized.

I am currently working on a sequel, Bentleyville Tigers, which will be completed one of these days.

The Shambleshow #13: Baker’s Dozen (2-12-12)

44:44 – My medical update, codeine didn’t help, Onsug stuff, Nightstation stuff, luck, reading Star Trek Voyager: Pathways, Deep Space Nine, Embargoed (Edit) (Blasting Trout Overbite, Attribution 3.0 United States), Whitney Houston died, Charlie Brown Valentine special, Jackie and I play games on the Atari Flashback console. Theme song: Simple Pleasures (Henry Homesweet, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 England & Wales).

Special notes:
1. This episode was recorded with intention of being released on February 13th in keeping with the “thirteen” theme, but it was all ready to go and I didn’t know if I’d get time on February 13th to release it, so I just figured screw it, I’ll release it now on the 12th.
2. When it was all compiled, this episode’s run time was 44:43, so I added one extra second of silence after the closing theme so that it would come out to 44:44 in honor of Eddie and his show Cloud Base 44.
3. In earnest hope that PQ Ribber won’t mind, I have borrowed a small section of BUG OUT Episode Ten (from the Magic Island portion), which has been altered significantly and can be heard at the very, very end of this episode.
4. I’m going to take a few days off from recording in order to recharge my creative faculties. There may or may not be another Shambleshow this week, but I plan to return to the two-a-week schedule next week for sure.
