29:57 – Welcome to another Saved from Oblivion!Jimbo takes you into his own, hand-picked treasures of old-time radio. He tells you just a bit about the episode and then lets the show do the talking. For brevitiy, each show will last 40 minutes or less.In our world, it’s nothing to see mediation on TV. Judge Judy, Judge et al… they are everywhere on the tube.
In the 1940’s, shows like this were rare. But there was one show where this exact thing took place:
A.L. Alexander’s Mediation Board. However, there’s not just one judge here, but a bevy of mediators. Each has their say.
This episode, in particular, is full of eyebrow-raising sparks, and is kind of shocking for 1943, the year this episode ran. There appears to be a fight or a row of some sort, where there is silence for a half a minute or so while calm can be restored…

Today’s show features a program called, Dunninger. Born Joseph Dunninger, this performer blazed a path few took: he was radio’s number one mentalist, seer, etc. Despite claiming to debunk spiritualism, he himself performed the same sleight of hand!
He was in league with Houdini and others and is said to be the model for The Shadow! Hoo hoo hoo ha ha ha ha!
This episode comes from 1944.

Jimbo takes you into his own, hand-picked treasures of old-time radio. He tells you just a bit about the episode and then lets the show do the talking. For brevitiy, each show will last 40 minutes or less.
Today’s show features a program called, Nightwatch. In the middle to late 1950’s, Nightwatch was a Cops-like radio show, where a man with a tape recorder went out with the Culver City, California police on calls. The results are sometimes bizarre and other times mundane.
The best part of all, is that you get a window into 1950’s life (usually the seedier side) and you’ll get a view of how “the other half” lived.

Jimbo takes you into his own, hand-picked treasures of old-time radio. He tells you just a bit about the episode and then lets the show do the talking. For brevitiy, each show will last 40 minutes or less.
Today’s show features many short programs. The first show, The Police Reporters, is the episode called, “The Omelet that Cost a Man His Head”. It’s from 1933. It’s proof that 90% of radio in the early 1930’s was perhaps a little too dramatic. However, this is what makes it fun, listening to the theatrics.
The second program, and those after it are from the more intelligent program, but a very short 1959 series called, Basil Rathbone, Word Detective.  Mr. Rathbone, a well-versed Shakespearean actor of note, did these programs for Underwood typewriters. What we have here are word/phrase etymologies presented to us in his wonderful style. Fun and informative!

28:00 – Welcome to another Saved from Oblivion!
Jimbo takes you into his own, hand-picked treasures of old-time radio. He tells you just a bit about the episode and then lets the show do the talking.  For brevitiy, each show will last 40 minutes or less.
Today’s show features two short programs. The first show features Orson Welles, in a show simply known by the sponsor’s name: Lear. He gives us his own news commentary of the day (in post-war July 1946) and my bet is that he will surprise you with his passion and charisma, as he reveals his feelings about an African-American veteran who was unjustly abused by the police.
The second program, called Guess What, is much lighter. It’s an interactive quiz program. When you play along and try your own hand at the quiz, you will find it’s not so easy. This show was directed at the late teen and young adult audience. Were kids in the early 1950’s that much smarter than us, with our internet?
