Rubénerd Show 337: The skimming episode (4/11/16)

28:22 – Now that I’m thirty (GULP), a rambling episode about having my card skimmed in a taxi. Also failed burnouts, beeeeees, the Sydney housing bubble, burglaries, listener feedback (Marc and Shambles), missing an Overnightscape Central, Windows 95 nostalgia, sprinklers, and introverted office cacti.

Rubénerd Show 332: The gap episode (3/22/16)

33:13 – The second in a short show series documenting my last week as a 20-something! Chatting about warping lift shafts, colourful language for falling, an international Onsug, blocking websites, scripting away podcast chores, Akiyama Mio’s infamous K-On! scene, mail servers, Netflix, dead file sharing service nostalgia (aka Napster), and paying someone to do it for you!

Rubénerd Show 326: The 29th of February episode (2/29/16)

40:03 – The only other Rubénerd material posted on this weird day, spam as art for computers, having your own email address, towers of AOL trial CDs, fragility of memory, 1990s IT magazine nostalgia, work fatigue, why ISO dates are so damn good, time speeding up as we age, school holidays, introversion, events that only happen every four years, knowing someone born on the 29th of February, the Lunar New Year, and a proposal for a global public holiday.

Rubénerd Show 322: The reading into Straya episode (01/27/16)

52:35 – Anyone will tell you it’s a prison island, hidden in the summer for a million years. Happy Australia Day with this discussion of what should be the anthem, Captain Cook, our native peoples, where we all live, cliché Australian tourism advertising, Outback Steakhouse, and humbling flights over the desert. Topped off with a Midnight Citizen-inspired discussion on rapidly fading music and book retail (Coconuts, Borders, Angus & Robertson, Tower Records, HMV in Singapore, the magical late 1990s), and the darn space all those books and DVDs take up. Released late because work has been tough, hope it was worth it!

Rubénerd Show 318: The unverted imbrrella episode (1/6/15)

59:48 – Drizzly data centre trips, birds, cryptographic randomness (lava lamps, headphone cables as sources of entropy), uber-ing a crowdsourced paradigm of synergising disruption, listener feedback (Jimbo, Bi-Coastal Becky), hoarses [sic], Jimbo interviewing me on his podcast, Kevin Tan, functionally-challenged data centre bathrooms, trudging through the rain, high school athletics I didn’t suck at (gymnastics, badminton), winning a primary school writing contest, and finding the chipset from the first computer I built in 1998. Now with all-new abrupt endings!

Rubénerd Show 312: The Adelaide returns episode (12/13/15)

01:22:00 – Travelling back to Adelaide, where I first went to university and where most of the early Rubénerd Shows were recorded in 2005! Clara from the Snake Tea Podcast joins in the pontifications about this beautiful little Australian city as we wander late at night. So much has stayed the same, yet so much has changed. Goodbye, Isobar!

Rubénerd Show 301: The G3 media episode (10/18/15)

55:27 – Cicadas, overhead planes, show 300 feedback, powers of two, the Airbus A380, Wings, unusual clouds, light patterns, abandoned tennis courts with floodlights, Dave Chappelle as Rick James, couldn’t care less about celebrities, Dôme coffee chain in Perth and Singapore, childhood lessons about trusting the media, Chinese whispers, multimedia encyclopaedia CD-ROMs, citing Wikipedia, Apple IIc, squirrels, 1980s GUIs, nonsense about why Windows 9 was skipped, Mac OS 8.6, and my decade-long adventure with a “dead” PowerMac G3!

Rubénerd Show 300: The decade episode! (10/11/15)

53:35 – Celebrating episode 300 with clips and cover art from episode 47, recorded exactly ten years ago! Topics include music at work, nostalgic Rubénerd Show history, lost shows, computers mixing dates, Cairns Highlands Coffee, family trips, being a digital hoarder, past editing paranoia, loud birds, a clip from Singapore’s defunct Channel i, remembering disappeared podcasts (Crap and Stuff, Whole Wheat Radio), a clip from Ammy and Daddy’s Real Life Stuff (a new show you should be listening to), and 2000s nostalgia. Introductory music by Who Ha.

Thanks for your listenership all these years, I’m humbled beyond belief. Here’s to the next 300!
