NIGHT PROJECT – Heart of Darkness – (4/27/11)

2:04:12 – A jam-packed assemblage of awesomeness, highlighted by Orson Welles and the Mercury Theater’s 1939 rendition of Josef Conrad’s Heart of Darkness!  But there’s more!  Franklin MacCormack’s night poetry from WGN, December, 1970, Americanisms, Mr F Le Mur, 1960 Flying Saucer Convention recordings (details below), Babe Ruth, Henry Morgan, and even a rare, 1958 Jean Shepherd excerpt!  PQ Ribber oversees the proceedings from the temporary Rubber Room Annex, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.  This is Night Radio!

The Midnight Citizen 26 — “The State of Emergency Show”

32:57 — With massive regional destruction, six people dead, and no end in sight, hear a first-person, blow- by-blow account of what Famed Alabama Weatherman James Spann has called “the worst weather I’ve seen in my career!” Hear all the severe weather action as I shack up inside my tiny apartment and ride the storm out. Also, witness the tale of how my humble paper route almost ended my life!

The Midnight Citizen 25 — “Vindication”

50:05 — It seems creative people have the hardest time getting vindicated for their actions — working super hard on a project, whether it be novel, or screenplay, or acting, only to see their efforts evaporate into the universe of ephemeral appreciation. Well, no more — at least for me! Tonight, I look back on some of my ideas, past and present — ones I’ve spent huge chunks of time obsessing over, and throw them out there for your enjoyment. And you will enjoy, and I will finally feel vindication for spending most of my life inside my own head.
