SERMONS #59 – Attack of the Seraphim (8/2/23)

29:41 – Were the “fiery flying serpents” with six wings who attacked the Israelites angels or jet planes? How did a snake on a pole heal the victims of these attacks? Why did the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association and numerous other medical groups adopt this symbol as their own? What’s the difference between the Rod of Asclepius and the Caduceus? Why did Balaam’s ass see the angel (malach) in the middle of the road while Balaam did not? Who or what made the ass speak? Dave in Kentucky speaks from a similar source as he suggests answers to these and other questions.

Show art: “Moses and the Brazen Serpent” (ca. 1650) by Esteban March (1610-1668), Public Domain.

SERMONS #58 – Budding Rods & Bamboo Rhizomes (7/24/23)

29:36 – The Yahwelians rig yet another miracle by means of their superior scientific knowledge, but they leave some clues indicating how they did it. Dave in Kentucky attempts to solve what Erle Stanley Gardner might have called The Case of the Blossoming Rod. Also: Did the Levites live high on the hog on the public dime? Why did the Edomites hold a grudge against the Israelites? Why were Moses and Aaron denied access to the Promised Land? Et cetera.

Show art: “Aaron’s Staff Buds” (1860) by Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872), Public Domain.

SERMONS #57 – Sinkholes & Deathrays (7/11/23)

30:12 – Are the Anakim, Nephilim, Watchers and Anunnaki all branches of the same family tree? Do giant tools imply giant tool-users? Does Dave’s falsetto voice remind you of a Monty Python skit? Why send out spies if you’re not going to believe their reports? Is gathering firewood on the Sabbath deserving of the death penalty? Which is more deadly, a sinkhole or a death ray? Dave in Kentucky tells you what he thinks, and all he asks is that if you don’t like his answers, just please don’t kill the messenger.

SERMONS #56 – Return of the Nephilim (7/5/23)

30:04 – Complaining about the lack of variety on the menu leads to even less variety for the following month, and a large number of deaths. Miriam doesn’t like the fact that her brother Moses has married an Ethiopian woman, so she engages in some seditious talk with her easily-influenced brother Aaron, whereupon as punishment she is turned even whiter than she already was. Moses sends twelve spies to scout out the Promised Land, where they encounter the Anakim, who are giant descendants of the Nephilim. But how is this possible if the Nephilim were wiped out in the Great Flood? Also: Speculation about the role interstellar objects like Oumuamua and the Borisov Comet might have played in the development of early man.

Show art: “Quail in the Wilderness” (1698) by Caspar Luyken (1672-1708), Public Domain.
