GunkCast 32: Tales From The Gunkcast Crypt! (October 2014)

1:14:13 – The big seasonal celebration returns to the podcast…. Halloween 2014 is here! After a couple year’s hiatus, Byron resurrects his scarefest for the podcast. Being that this is his 3rd episode as such (do we hear trilogy?), he decides to pull out all the stops & make this possibly the grandest ghouls night out yet! Of course to do this, he invites some surprise guests on the show to tell their real life tales of terror!

So with this one, you truly get it all… horror, comedy, & a rocking soundtrack (with some great musical contributions from the likes of Letter Seventeen, Khemique, & Immortal Chorus)! We promise… by the end of this outing, you’ll literally be screaming for more! Happy Halloween!

GunkCast 31: In The Fish 2 (September 2014)

1:25:33 - If you combine nightmarish train journeys, ballpark tours, & a podcast meetup on the streets of Chicago… it can only mean one thing. Yes it’s the return of a famous New Jersey podcaster (along with his son) to Chi-Town for a 2nd live meeting with Byron! We welcome back Manny The Mailman!

So Manny, his son Mike, & Byron reconvene at the same establishment from 2 years ago in attempt to locate the world’s most knowledgeable beer server (who the podcasters claim to have met last time). Alas, he is nowhere to be found now…but this does not stop a very eventful meetup over dinner & several brews (with Byron later playing tour guide on a trip to Buckingham Fountain)!

Some conversation topics include the horrifying side of travel via railway, other surprise meetups in the Midwest, the unnecessary re-naming of iconic national landmarks, scaling skyscrapers & arches, how people ever survived before cell phones, listening to celebrity podcasts, well wishes to Doc from Insignificast, talking Trek, many crazy ballpark tales, and how an unfortunate bmx bike accident led to this whole escapade for Manny & his son!

Also (as if this episode couldn’t get any better), we feature a very special musical debut for Gunkcast by Mike Fortunato!

As always…please share the love and listen to some of our favorite podcasts at: Static Radio, Special Delivery, Onsug, Paunch Stevenson, &Insignificast!

Gunkcast 29: From Primordial Soup… To The Barcode (May 2014)

23:51 – So what’s exactly happening with Byron so far in 2014? Last time he took the podcast on a bit of an emotional roller coaster, & now he decides to get all philosophical(?)! While this may be some pretty uncharacteristic stuff for Gunkcast, we also strongly feel it is some of the best to come out yet!

So here we find Byron kicking the whole thing off with a bit of a rant on punk fashion (with some help from a certain punk rock icon from the past), which then somehow leads to Byron’s theories on evolution, revelations of long-lost music projects, & speculations on just where our final destination will be in the end! (Can it possibly involve a machine-readable code in the form of numbers and a pattern of parallel lines of varying widths??)

Oh, and very noteworthy for this episode is the “secret music” from Byron’s past we guarantee you’ve never heard before! Thanks for listening… cheers!

Gunkcast 23: Vintage Lunchbox-Roadshow-Meetup (May 2013)

45:11 – Byron talks all things old school, takes the show on the road, & meets up with a couple surprise guests in “Vintage Lunchbox Roadshow Meetup!”

“Vintage Lunchbox-Roadshow-Meetup”

What happens when Byron starts off this episode wandering around a Chicago neighborhood on his lunch break from work rambling about items of nostalgic value from his past, but then changes gears & takes the show on the road South (& meeting up with a surprise couple of guests along the way)?

Some extra hints about this episode may be found in a few alternate titles Byron originally had: Escape From Goose Island, Are We There Yet?, Byron Can’t Drive 70, The Tampler, When (Podcast) Worlds Collide, Punk Rock Beach Wedding Invasion, Random Canadians & Internet People Are Cool!

So join Byron, along with his family & band, on this rollicking adventure which treks from the streets of Chicago to the deep South and back (& featuring some great soundtrack music which includesCurmudgeon, The Gunk U.K. & Byron’s surprise guest as well)! What more could possibly be packed in one episode outing?

Gunkcast 26: Bad Hair Day 2: The 80’s World Tour! (December 2013)

1:30:15

“There’s been a lot of talk about this next podcast…maybe, maybe too much talk!” Yes, Byron summons the podcast listeners to rally behind his cause with these immortal words which he utters live under a blood red sky. That is…before he pulls the parachute (wait…huh?)!

To kick off the 2nd part of our big retro journey, we find Byron still plummeting towards the Earth on his skydive while he continues the nostalgic trip three decades into the past. But this time (& never-before-seen on Gunkcast) the show goes international for his first guest! Here Byron learns what a “scouser” really is, finds out the origins of this guest’s great love of a certain Chicago sports team, & why he actually has tried to block the 80’s out from his life! After this, Byron free-falls back to the U.S.A. & heads South for some friends (a hint at another podcast team) to vocalize their diverse opinions of the 80’s. This is to quite hilarious results! Finally, the bomb is dropped. One of Byron’s oldest pals stops by the studio with a box which contains the ultimate secret from both of their dark (musical) pasts!

As with the first part episode of Bad Hair Day, this one is abound with much great music of the 80’s (as interpreted by several outstanding contributors)! Some of these include The Basement Lights, Letter Seventeen, The Negligible Nukes, The Flat-U-Ants, Phil ‘Fingers McKraken’… as well as the regular Gunkcast house bands: Curmudgeon &The Gunk U.K.!

Also, watch for one of the whackiest intros ever in the history of the podcast… & we strongly hint at (several) possible hidden endings which you definitely won’t want to miss! In a nutshell, this one has it all folks! Cheers!

Gunkcast 25: Bad Hair Day In The U.S.A. (Part 1) (October 2013)

1:06:18 - The retro journey begins! So how does an episode which starts with Byron walking his dog suddenly lead to a skydiving adventure, which in turn triggers a wild nostalgic trip to a certain past decade? You’ll just have to tune in to find out these answers. This is one of the biggest (& definitely the longest schemed) outings for the podcast to date! So join Byron and several featured surprise guests as he hot-wires the old Delorean & takes us on a trip back….!

Also to note, this episode is abound with much great music of a past era… as interpreted by not only our usual podcast house bands: The Gunk U.K. & Curmudgeon, but also by some of Byron’s friends & family alike. Rumors are this Part #1 episode may include a vocal debut by Byron’s wife Maggie Mae, as well as contributions by one of his earliest childhood friends who is now a dedicated musician himself…Stuart Chaseman.

Gunkcast 16: Space Trek Part I (March 2012)

27:16 - “Space Trek (Part I): Those Guys vs Double-J Raygun”

The title should say it all! But to sum up briefly…

The villainous Double-J Raygun is trying to reboot the franchise. He went to the extreme measures of kidnapping Captain Jerk & destroying First Officer Sock’s home planet of Toucan. Can Dr. Stones M’Boy & the crew of the Starship Arrow save the day? But they may need the help of someone who pilots a vessel know as The TARGIT…..!

So Byron & a couple of his old friends got together here to bring back a skit they originally started when they were in high school (in the 80’s) & doing a cable access show called Those Guys. The skit was a parody of a legendary & much beloved sci-fi TV series. But for this reunion we have brought quite a bit of an update to the original concept (along with many other surprise twists).

Byron claims this is his biggest and most ambitious outing for Gunkcast to date (it actually has been over a year in the making)! So we are now proud to present Part#1 of an all out epic sci-fi comedy adventure from the warped minds behind this humble podcast!!

GunkCast 17: In The Fish (April 2012)

1:12:19 – Welcome GunkCast to The Overnightscape Underground!

Show notes: While you wait for the much anticipated part# 2 of Space Trek, check out the adventures of Byron and a certain legendary New Jersey podcaster as they had a meetup on the streets of Chicago. We don’t want to give alot away about the identity of our surprise guest…but clues may be found in a couple alternate titles Byron had thought of for this episode: “A Gunkcast Special Delivery” or “Byron Meets The Champler” (but the actual title we used in the end came from quite an unexpected source)! You’ll just have to listen for all the answers & much more! Cheers!…
